Gilding course at the Geras Academy
I offer a first practical encounter with a fascinating craft that is thousands of years old.
From chalk ground to burnished gold
The focus is on your practical work on an object of your own. I explain each stage clearly — applying the chalk ground, sanding, engraving, laying the gold leaf and burnishing — and support the hands-on work with the necessary theory.
Suitable objects
- Frames and ornaments
- Cartouches and angel heads
- Smaller, new objects made from untreated wood
Materials
Gold leaf, silver leaf, gilding cushion and knife, gilder’s tip, wetting brush, burnishers, sandpaper and priming brushes. Participants may use their own materials after consultation.
